In 2004 InfoTechAudit cc was established to provide a Information Technology (Computer) Audit Service to companies throughout Africa that use Information Technology (IT) widely in their business, depending on it daily, and who would be unable to function without it. This would include most medium and large Companies, Stock Exchange listed or unlisted, as most Companies, at the least keep their financials on computer.

Many Companies do not have Internal Audit departments. If they do then the chances are that this department does not include an IT Auditor due to cost constraints.

Companies rely on their External Auditors to provide them with the assurance that their Financial Reports are accurate. This the External Auditors do at least once a year. However, External Auditors function is not to review the IT controls. Many of the External Audit Firms may give the IT environment a brief review to establish the reliance that they are able to place on the financial records. However, financial statements and NOT Information Technology are their focus.

Many medium to smaller External Audit firms do not have the skills readily available to provide an IT auditing services to their clients, unlike larger firms such as PriceWaterHouse etc. Therefore they find themselves at a distinct disadvantage when seeking or tendering for audit work against the larger firms who can add value by offering these services.
